Three men suspected of committing “knock, knock” burglaries all over L.A. County -- using rented vehicles -- were behind bars Wednesday, following their arrests in a posh neighborhood.
Arrested were Rayshawn Marshall, 20; Mark Hundley, 29 and Michael Butler, 21, following an ongoing investigation into crimes in residential areas; they were taken into custody in the 700 block of Enchanted Way, in Pacific Palisades.
The men were suspected of renting vehicles to commit the burglaries, which entail knocking on doors and in cases of no answer, breaking in, authorities said.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators from the Major Crimes Bureau, Metro and Burglary-Robbery Task Force on Tuesday, Nov. 3 were on the trail of the crew when detectives about 10 a.m. spotted a vehicle driving by slowly in an upscale neighborhood, Sgt. Michael Maher said.
Cops found the vehicle parked at a curb on Enchanted Way and a suspect identified as Hundley sitting in the vehicle, leaning back in the driver’s seat; authorities spotted him as the ”lookout.”
At about 10:45 a.m., investigators observed two other suspects -- identified as Marshall and Butler -- run to the street from the home; they were quickly picked up by the driver.
The suspects drove off toward Pacific Coast Highway, Maher reported.
Detectives quickly confirmed that the home had been ransacked, damaged, and burglarized.
A short distance away -- near the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Temescal Canyon -- Task Force tactical deputies stopped the vehicle and arrested the suspects without incident.
Stolen property (jewelry, watches, and personal property) from the burglarized home were allegedly recovered from inside the vehicle, as well as on Marshall’s person, Maher said.
The property recovered was valued at more than $10,000, according to the sergeant.
The suspects also had a police scanner tuned into local law enforcement broadcasts in the vehicle, the sergeant said.
All three suspects were arrested and booked at South Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station on suspicion of residential burglary. They were being held without bail, based on prior convictions and alleged gang affiliations.
Marshall was out of custody and on bond for a recent felony burglary arrest and has previously been arrested numerous times for felony violations, including illegal possession of a firearm, residential and auto burglary, and robbery. He is also currently on felony probation for weapons violations.
Hundley was out of custody on probation for a recent narcotics violation conviction, and has multiple previous felony arrests, including six felony convictions for weapons violations, burglaries, narcotics violations, and stolen vehicle violations.
Butler was also out of custody, on bond, for a recent felony burglary arrest and has previously been arrested numerous times for felony violations, including burglary, assault, and robbery. He is also currently on felony probation for a previous residential burglary conviction.
All three suspects could be facing 25 years to life in prison if convicted on all charges and the admission of priors.
Citizens are reminded to lock and secure their homes while away, and quickly report suspicious persons or vehicles in your neighborhood to local law enforcement.
